From the kitchen of Ann Marie Barkwell. This recipe
was given to me in the 70's from neighbor Esther
Olson.
In a pot:
2 c chopped dates
1 c boiling water
Let come to boil to soften dates.
Cool.  Set aside.

Cream:
1 c sugar
1/2 c shortening

Add:
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt

Add:
date mixture
Mix well.

Add:
2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
1 c chopped nuts
Batter will be soft.
Drop by spoonful onto a
GREASED sheet.

Bake @ 375 for 10-12 minutes
