{"id":2766,"date":"2023-06-03T15:44:35","date_gmt":"2023-06-03T15:44:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/familyrecipesandmore.com\/wordpress\/?p=2766"},"modified":"2026-06-01T11:00:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T11:00:07","slug":"zazvorniky-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyrecipesandmore.com\/wordpress\/zazvorniky-cookies\/","title":{"rendered":"Zazvorniky Cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the kitchen of Carla Wilson<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beat together until frothy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>8 egg YOLKS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>4 egg WHITES<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>1\/4 lb butter, melted<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mix together, then SLOWLY add:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>1 lb powdered sugar (3 1\/2 c)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>2 Tbsp ginger<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mix for 10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>4 1\/2 c flour<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>5 tsp baking powder<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mix for 5 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Form into a couple of dough balls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wrap in wax paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Refrigerate a couple hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roll dough 1\/2&#8243; thick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use zazzy cookie cutter, or cutter of your choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place on greased cookie sheets- about 5 sheets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let stay overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IN MORNING:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bake @ 400, 7 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NOTES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is a traditional Slovakian ginger cookie (pronounced ZAHZ-vor-ni-kee) or Zazzy for short. The cookies set overnight (this helps them raise). They will DOUBLE in height while baking. The bottom half will be spongier than the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was curious what would happen if I didn&#8217;t wait overnight. So I let the cookies rest 5 hours then baked. See photo. The cookies still had great flavor, but they didn&#8217;t poof as much, the texture was softer &amp; the tops wrinkled.
