{"id":3129,"date":"2023-06-09T18:03:35","date_gmt":"2023-06-09T18:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/familyrecipesandmore.com\/wordpress\/?p=3129"},"modified":"2026-05-31T20:35:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T20:35:20","slug":"halupki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/familyrecipesandmore.com\/wordpress\/halupki\/","title":{"rendered":"Halupki"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the kitchen of Carla Wilson<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>2 1\/2- 3 lb ground chuck<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>1\/2- 3\/4 lb ground pork<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>1 c (measured raw) rice<\/strong><\/em>&#8211; cook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saut\u00e9:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>1 large chopped white onion<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>1 stick butter or margarine<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fry on low until onions become transparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cool. Mix with ground meats &amp; cooked rice (use about 3\/4 of cooked rice).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In your largest pot, bring 2&#8243; of water to a boil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wash&nbsp;<em><strong>3 heads cabbage<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cut core out with knife- go down about 4&#8243; turn entire head upside down &amp; put in boiling water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cover. Steam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take leaves off, one at a time, put on plate to cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cut thick center vein from cabbage leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take about 1\/4 c of meat mixture, roll into a ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place on cabbage leaf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fold right &amp; left side in over meat, then roll up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a large (soup type) pot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place halupki, seam side down (so they won&#8217;t fall apart).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fill the pot about 3\/4 full with halupki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour&nbsp;<strong><em>tomato juice<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;over holupki until pot is about 1\/2 full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour:&nbsp;<em><strong>1 c tomato catsup&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add:&nbsp;<em><strong>2 bay leaves<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cut up:&nbsp;<em><strong>1\/2 large white onion<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Place raw onion on top of holupki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cover with small cabbage leaves, veins removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour some more&nbsp;<strong><em>tomato juice<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;over top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cover pot.
